Your best garage sale find? - Wise Bread Forums

Late in the summer before I went to college, My family and I did some garage sale shopping. It was cold and rainy (Michigan) and late in the day when we came upon a sale that had a full size couch and love seat. I think they had $75 on the couch and $50 on the love seat. My sister and brother-in-law had just gotten a new apartment and needed furniture and my dad was convinced I needed a small couch to take to college (still not certain why, but I wasn't going to argue with him). My sister and I talked to the guy who was selling and got both pieces for $35 each. I convinced my sister that the love seat, which was smaller, would be $12.50 and she accepted that. The couches weren't pretty, but they worked well for us and the price was great. Also, when I was in early high school, I spotted a CRC Mathematical Handbook. I wasn't entirely certain what it was, but knew about CRC Chemical Handbooks from my chemistry teacher. I also knew I wanted to be an engineer and would end up taking a lot of math. The people selling obviously weren't sure what they had, as they sold me the book for $0.25. That $0.25 paid for an incredibly helpful book that helped us figure out many, many problems in late high school and especially in college. I still use it fairly regularly for reference.
